HOW IT WORKS:
Microcurrent stimulation treatment of patients with Macular Degeneration and Retinitis Pigmentosa entails the periodic administration of precise electrical current through electrodes applied to the skin around the eye. Research suggests that micro-current electrical stimulation device approximates the level of electrical activity present in a healthy eye stimulating retinal activity and energizing dormant cells, improving microvascular circulation and nerve function.
There are several metabolic processes that are enhanced using Microcurrent Stimulation.
WHY WE USE THIS PARTICULAR UNIT: Microcurrent Stimulation (MCS 100 ile.)
It is preset automatically to run through 4 frequencies in a preset 5-minute cycle before turning off. The four frequencies* are: 292 Hz for 30 seconds, 30Hz for 30 seconds, 9.1Hz for 2 minutes, then finally .3Hz for 2 minutes. Voltage is up to 22 and amps range 700 microAmps. There are other micro-current stimulation units available, but they have to be specifically calibrated both in frequency and timing to ensure proper gentle wave currents for your eyes. Most of these other units are actually TENS units designed for wound healing and bone repair.

IS MICROCURRENT STIMULATION SAFE?
The procedure is safe, noninvasive and painless and no side effects or adverse reactions have been observed. The procedure is done 2-3x a day for 5 -10 minute intervals for 1-2 months at a time.
No side effects or adverse outcomes related to this treatment have been seen so far. No increase in the conversion to the wet form of Macular Degeneration has been seen to those who have been treated. In a consensus statement by the NIH reports that, "One of the advantages...is that the incidence of adverse affects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures”.
(1-2 months of consistent microcurrent stimulation is usually sufficient to see significant improvement. Periodic maintenance is recommended, (Every 6 months for 3-6 weeks). Summer likes to think of it as weeding your "retinal garden", it has to be done regularly if possible to maintain a healthy set of retinal light receptor cells - without being 'choked' out by drusen i.e.) retinal 'plaque' or reduced oxygen & blood flow.
and its efficacy is greatly increased in conjunction with other Degenerative disease changes (diet, supplementation, exercise and Microsystem Acupuncture Treatments
