Care & Prevention of Glaucoma
Be aware of Excessive Computer Use:
Be aware of the drugs you may be taking that may cause glaucoma and/or damage the optic nerve.
The following information on drugs and supplements are taken from our colleague; Optometrist Dr. Marc Grossman’s website: www.NaturalEyeCare.com
Essential Oils to increase circulation around the eyes:
if you have Low Tension Glaucoma (anything under 22 mm) it is usually caused by too low circulation…
Eye Exercises & Reduced Prescriptions to reduce Near Point Stress & Eye-Strain:
"Vision Education and Therapy can assess the strain you put on your eyes and teach you how to increase your range of movement and relaxation. Use a reduced prescription when necessary and no correction whenever possible without causing strain. ” Dr. Grossman O.D. (Natural Eye Care, Keats Publishing, Los Angeles, 1999 p. 45)
Light Therapy in the Treatment of Glaucoma.
Enlarged pupils on a chronic basis may predispose certain persons to Glaucoma
“for patients who have been diagnosed as having Glaucoma, a medication that reduces the pupil size is routinely prescribed. The wider the pupil, the more likely that pressure will build up behind the eye and block the flow of fluids. Sunlight (and Bluemax TM lighting) naturally create the same result as medication, reducing pupil size.“
(Seeing Without Glasses, Kaplan, Beyond Works Publishing 2003, p. 25)
Natural Sunlight (and BlueMaxTM/Full Spectrum lighting) naturally reduce pupil size.
“Optimal conditions for smaller pupil size are created only by changing the color spectrum with the addition of the blue spectrum, which increases visual clarity and acuity for people of all ages (and can reduce the chances of increased intraocular pressure). ” Seeing Light: Using Full-Spectrum Lighting to Enhance Workplace Performance. Laurence D. Martel. 2005 Wiley Periodicals. *
Syntonic Light Therapy/ Green Tint Glasses Therapy
Syntonics or optometric phototherapy, is the branch of ocular science dealing with the application of selected light frequencies through the eyes. Coloured gels or lenses that emit only certain frequencies are proven to treat different ocular symptoms.
STUDY 1 Intraocular Pressure of Normal and Glaucomatous Eyes as Affected by Accessory Light Stimuli, by R. B. Zaretskaya, MD, published in American Journal of Ophthalmology 1948 – 31-721-727.
STUDY 2 Experiments with Green Spectacles Prescribed to Glaucomatous Patients, by R. B. Zaretskaya, MD, which was published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology 1948 31: 985-989.
STUDY 3 A study of the effects of green light on the intraocular pressure in a series of glaucoma patients. (www.healingtheeye.com/Articles/Syntonic_Light_Therapy_Glaucoma.html)
STUDY 1. Conclusions
Green light should be considered a therapy for the reduction of IOP (Intraocular Pressure) in glaucoma.
STUDY 2. Conclusions:
Results of this study showed that IOP showed a pronounced tendency to decrease in patients wearing green spectacles. The fluctuation of IOP during the day was also found to decrease in patients wearing green glasses. The affects are most pronounced when used with the administration of small doses of adrenalin.
STUDY 3. Conclusions:
Green light has a pressure lower affect in the majority of patients 9/11 patients or 82%. The average pressure lower affect was 5 mm Hg and this effect persisted for 4 hours after a brief 10 minute exposure. Green light should be considered a safe alternative in the treatment of glaucoma.
Emotional aspects of Glaucoma:
Since Glaucoma involves increased eye pressure, it is necessary to look at our lifestyle, and how we might be introducing unnecessary pressure into our lives moment by moment. Learning to see and accept ourselves and our situation clearly and learning to understand and accept others, brings peace.
These will be in our store soon (March 2018) , and can be ordered through us … or www.NaturalEyeCare.com (in the united states) - although I find their website difficult to navigate and the US$ and duty unfortunate.
